Manager, Mining

Job Summary:

Oversee the overall development & operations of the mining site; ensure mining operations are conducted to the highest standards; coordinate resources and equipment for mining operation; ensure all operations comply with safety policies and procedures; manage overall performance of the mining team; and propose new strategies and technologies to improve the mining operations.


What you will do:

  • Lead the mining team and ensure mining operations are conducted as scheduled with the highest standards and in a safe & cost-effective manner
  • Conducts exploration and site preparation by reviewing maps and drilling logs to determine location, size, accessibility, quality, and estimated volumes of deposits
  • Manage in drill and blast optimization, and report development while communicating with the drill and blast vendors as required
  • Build short and long-term strategic planning with respect to land and reserves management, mining and extraction, material transfer, maintenance, and site rehabilitation
  • Works with production teams to develop methods to extract material, evaluating factors such as safety, operational costs, deposit characteristics, water and soils management, and overburden depth
  • Provide close supervision in the development and implementation of the annual plan, budget, personnel development for the operations
  • Prepare regular reports on mining’s performance and propose new strategies, processes and technologies to improve operations and product standard
  • Implement preventative maintenance plans, equipment monitoring, machinery and vehicles and inventory management including critical spare parts, and develop maintenance procedures and schedules
  • Collaborate with production teams in achieving 6S standard, as well as being active within mining teams
  • Establish, support, and maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the materials business unit
  • Support in the training and development of the workforce in relation to areas of responsibility
  • Perform other duties as assigned


What you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the construction or mining industry with the role of production or quarry manager within multinational organizations
  • Experience in Greenfield abrasive hard rock quarry or mine development
  • Experience with processing plants (500+ Tones per hour)
  • Experienced and technically proficient in quarry management and aggregate processing
  • Able to lead a sizable establishment to drive its development and growth
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the construction material, aggregates, cements and
  • In-depth knowledge of quarrying environments and extraction systems
  • Knowledge of construction methods and strategies
  • Knowledge of market research and analysis
  • Knowledge of project management and risk management
  • Strong analytical & investment appraisal skills
  • Strong planning and organizing skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify risks and mitigate forthcoming conflicts or unacceptable business outcomes
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new trends and new markets
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Member of the Institute of Quarrying
